The Financial Reality of Strangulation by Regulation in the Oil and Gas Industry
John Hofmeister - Citizens for Affordable Energy | John will speak about the current regulatory regime for oil and gas, the excessive environmental politics that are harming the industry’s and the country’s energy prospects, and the long- and short-term implications, both with respect to energy supply and the impact on the country’s financial livelihood, of current US government policy toward energy production. The recent shutdown of drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is just another piece of evidence of the government regulatory environment which is strangling the domestic energy industry and the oil service industry and is leading to higher energy prices and severe restrictions on both current and future domestic production. John will discuss these issues and how he addresses them in his recent book “Why We Hate the Oil Companies”.
Professional Development - 4:30 pm
Effective Transfer Pricing in the Current Environment
Kristin Yoshida - Tax Managing Director, KPMG LLP | The current transfer pricing environment is marked by intense scrutiny from nearly every jurisdiction with transfer pricing regulations. Many major jurisdictions, such as China, France, India, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, are reviewing their broader international tax policies and more rigorously enforcing existing regimes. Transfer pricing and an increased focus on international enforcement activity are garnering attention at the highest levels of government. Kristin will provide an overview of the current transfer pricing environment, including global trends and developments in the US. Additionally she will discuss the planning and compliance issues associated with transfer pricing and risk management
issues to consider.
