Janet Gurwitch - Founder/Former CEO, Laura Mercier Cosmetics and Skincare | Janet will discuss the important activities needed to build a global brand based upon her extensive merchandising experience. She will also describe the marketing and management skills she utilized to realize this goal. These same techniques can be applied in other business environments to improve product sales performance and achieve greater revenue goals. She will also describe how she decided to sell the company and how she went about accomplishing this.

The FASB and the IASB have been diligently working on their convergence projects! Revenue recognition, lease accounting and financial instruments are among the issues being tackled and expected to be resolved in the next few months. The SEC is also expected to issue its decision on whether and when IFRS will be required for public companies in the US. Separate standards for private companies are also being contemplated. Together with a legislative agenda that includes further Dodd-Frank rule making and perhaps tax reform - makes for a busy year for accountants. This session will delve into the Top 10 Accounting Issues in 2012.

Donate to the FEI Scholarship Foundation

The FEI Houston Chapter Scholarship Foundation supports higher education and training in the fields of finance and accounting. The Foundation provides non-discriminatory scholarship funds to needy and deserving students attending accredited colleges and universities in the Greater Houston/Galveston area in conjunction with the FEI Houston Chapter Academic Honors Day. The Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization and contributions are tax-deductible as charitable donations. Members are encouraged to seek company matching funds to the Foundation.

Meeting Reservation Policies

Please register for Tuesday meetings by Friday at 3:00 pm and register only for the parts you will attend. On the registration page you will find a drop-down menu which will allow you to choose the parts of the meeting you will attend. The deadline for canceling dinner reservations without charge  is Monday at 12:00 pm. Members who register after Friday afternoon may attend the PD and Social Hour, but will be on a waiting list for Dinner. As Dinner cancellations occur on Monday, we will notify members on the waiting list.
